Philly Cheese Steak Sandwiches
ingredients:
1 kg ground beef (or ground turkey)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 green pepper, diced
1 small onion, diced
8 ounces sliced mushrooms
2 cloves of minced garlic
1/2 cup meat broth
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
4 hoagie buns or hamburger buns
8 slices of provolone cheese
Method:
Cook the ground beef: In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
Add the vegetables: Add the diced bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked ground beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
Add the sauce: Stir in the beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for another 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the sauce to thicken slightly. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
Toast Bread Rolls: While the mixture is simmering, preheat the broiler. Separate the bread rolls or hamburger buns and place them on a baking sheet, cut side up. Toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, until lightly browned.
Directions: Place the Philadelphia cheese slice mixture on the toast, spreading it evenly between each slice. Then top each slice with two slices of provolone cheese.
Grilling: Place the assembled sandwiches back under the grill for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving: Remove from oven and serve hot. Serve with pickles, potato chips or a side salad.
